Michael Lee Knox, 71, of Cleveland, and formerly of McDonald, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at his residence. He was a native of McMinn County, a son of the late William L. “Bill” and Lee Pardue Knox, and was preceded in death by brother, James Donald “Don” Knox. He retired as a senior technical coordinator from ECO Lab and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a veteran of Vietnam, having served in the U.S. Army. He was was an avid golfer. When he was younger, he served as a volunteer fireman for the Athens Fire Department. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Mary Knox of Athens; two grandsons, Jace and Zayn Knox, and granddaughter, Elle Knox; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Butch Price of Athens; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Kelly Knox of Armaug, Pa., Joe and Jeannine Knox of Athens, and Warner and Teresa Knox of Rockingham, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, private services will be held with the Rev. Jason Robertson officiating. Friends and family may come by Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in the U.S. National Cemetery in Chattanooga with military honors.
