The McMinn County Amateur Radio Club will host the 16th annual MCARC Hamfest on July 18 at the McMinn County Expo Center, which is located adjacent to the Athens Regional Park.
The annual Hamfest can be defined as an outdoor (but under the cover of the Expo center) Amateur (Ham) Radio Trader’s fest. All items pertaining to and of interest to ham radio enthusiasts may be sold or bought from individuals and vendors attending the event.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many Hamfests that were scheduled across the country earlier in the year were cancelled and as a result officials said they hope to provide an exceptional quality event this year.
“In addition, we anticipate having some vendors attending that will be selling ‘prepper’ equipment,” stated a news release about the event. “Ham operators from the four-state area are expected to attend and participate.”
Vendor setup will begin on Friday afternoon continuing Saturday morning. Attendees can purchase tickets for general admission beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday. Admission is $5 and vendors may purchase tickets for $10. Vendors are urged to bring their own tables and chairs.
Testing for ham licensing will be occurring during the course of the morning. Prizes will be awarded hourly with the grand prize awarded at the conclusion of the Hamfest, around 1 p.m., Saturday.
