On this week’s episode of DPA-TV, Host and DPA Staff Writer Ashley Copeland talks with Director of Athens City Schools Dr. Melanie Miller and Athens City Manager C. Seth Sumner in advance of a citywide sales tax referendum on Aug. 20. If the referendum is successful, a majority of the new revenue would help fund a potential consolidation of the city’s elementary schools and renovations at Athens City Middle School. This episode is posted in seven parts, with parts 1-4 giving both Miller and Sumner a chance to address important questions related to these issues. Parts 5-7 answer the final question and include a presentation from Sumner about the different funding mechanisms that would be required to make the school consolidation possible.
