Twelve resident deaths have now been reported as a result of the coronavirus outbreak at Life Care Center of Athens.

The number marks an increase of three over Wednesday’s update from Life Care Executive Director Jeff Ricks.

There have been 71 residents who tested positive for the coronavirus, with 27 testing negative.

One resident remains hospitalized.

“We are checking on this resident frequently and providing as much support as possible,” Ricks said. “We remain in consistent communication with our medical director and local hospitals to ensure our residents are transferred if more acute care is needed.”

In regard to the staff, Ricks reported that 49 have tested positive for the virus and 80 have tested negative.

Of those who tested positive, 28 have met CDC guidelines to return to work.
