Hiwassee Sons of the American Revolution: will meet on Monday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Mexiwing on White Street in Downtown Athens. The guest speaker will be author, historian and researcher Joy Montgomery about the Hiwassee Garrison, which was built in 1807 to protect settlers and travelers in the Indian frontier. Church Events

North Etowah Baptist Church: will host a Fall Revival with the Rev. Tim Inkelbarger from Sept. 19-22 with Sunday services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Monday-Wednesday services at 7 p.m. each night. Everyone welcome. Church located at 231 Pennsylvania Ave.

Mt. Verd Baptist Church: will honor all first responders of McMinn and surrounding counties on Sunday, Sept. 19, during the 10:30 a.m. service. The start of a revival with Evangelist Brent Carr will be held and all first responders and their families are encouraged to attend. A meal will be provided following the service. Athens Lutheran Church: will hold services in the public pavilion at Athens Regional Park on Sunday, Sept. 19. Sunday school starts at 9:15 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m. Everyone welcome.

Christ Community Church: will hold an indoor yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items for sale will include flat screen TVs, golf balls and clubs, microwave, desks and end tables, toys, games, glass insulators, silk flowers, Cabbage Patch dolls, framed prints, holiday and kitchen items and more. Bag-A-Bargain begins at noon. Church located in the back building at 14 S. Congress Parkway.

Miscellaneous

Mars Hill Presbyterian Church: has a supply of crutches, a wheelchair, a rollator, and a walker and other medical items that are available to be borrowed. Call the church office at 423-734-1403 Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for more information.

McMahan Calvary Cemetery: located in Athens on County Road 172 (formerly Clearwater Road), needs immediate donations to continue mowing and maintenance in 2021. The cemetery is maintained solely by donations from families and friends. Donors should make checks payable to McMahan Calvary Cemetery Fund and mail to Robert Guthrey, a fund trustee, at P.O. Box 272, Athens, TN 37371-0272.

East Tennessee Treasure Hunters Club: Currently being formed for anyone interested in metal detecting and wants to be in a group that meets and takes trips in the East Tennessee area. Contact Joe in Etowah at 423-493-3706 for more information or to join the club.
