MONTREAT, N.C. - Tennessee Wesleyan sustained a pair of basketball losses in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play Wednesday at Montreat College, with the women falling 68-54 and the men 90-75.
The Lady Bulldogs (9-7, 7-7 AAC) fell behind 17-4 in the first quarter, rallied to tie it 29-29 at halftime, then fell off the pace again in the second half. TWU shot 34 percent from the floor, including 21 percent from 3-point range, and 57 percent from the foul line. Montreat made 49 percent of its field goals and also out-rebounded Wesleyan 37-36.
Hunter Simpson was the Lady Bulldogs' lone double-digit scorer with 15 points. Hannah Troutt and Madison McClurg each pulled seven rebounds.
The TWU men trailed 44-19 at halftime and by as much as 32 points in the second half before closing the gap in the game's last three minutes. The Bulldogs (8-9, 4-8), who are on a six-game losing streak, shot 39 percent from the floor to 51 percent for Montreat and were also out-rebounded 42-39.
QD Cox led Wesleyan with 18 points, making five 3-pointers, and Ty Patterson added 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Wesleyan's basketball teams return home Saturday to face Reinhardt for another AAC match-up. The women's game tips off at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
