In this week’s edition of Sound Off Online, readers discussed the proposed school consolidation in Athens. If you would like to sound off, you can check out the tab on the homepage of dailypostathenian.com or deliver your sound off at our office at 320 S. Jackson Street in Athens. The following are the sound offs received this week:

Well, local Joe, you have two options. Vote yes on the sales tax increase and let everyone that shops or eats in Athens pay the increased sales tax. Vote no and let property owners of Athens pay with a property tax increase. Seems to me the sales tax increase is smarter.

My understanding is the City of Athens owns the buildings and property of the three proposed schools to be closed. The city should be looking at a plan to borrow money for restructuring and sell these properties to repay the loan. Our citizens are being stretched to the limit.
