A convenience store worker allegedly won $200 from scratch-off Tennessee Lottery tickets he is accused of stealing from the BP Station at 430 S. White St. last week.
The bad news is that it landed him in the McMinn County Justice Center on a charge of theft over $1,000.

Council gives schools more in its budget

A standing room only crowd was in attendance Wednesday night as the City Council met the Athens City Schools a little more than half-way and increased the schools\' budget by $341,300.
City Councilman Shane Jackson made the motion that finally passed unanimously by the Council. He suggested giving the school system 70 percent of the total $867,000 they requested, which included $296,200 the city already had in its budget.

Private firm buys Waupaca 'Business as usual' is the goal

WAUPACA, Wisc. - ThyssenKrupp AG, a global materials and technology group based in Essen, Germany, announced today the sale of ThyssenKrupp Waupaca Inc., its U.S. foundry business, to an affiliate of KPS Capital Partners, LP (KPS), a New York-based private-equity firm. A \"stock purchase agreement\" (SPA) signed by both parties was approved by the ThyssenKrupp AG Supervisory Board on Tuesday.

Etowah utility rates going up

ETOWAH -- Etowah Utilities Board customers can expect a 5 percent increase in their water and sewer rates.
During a budget meeting on Tuesday night, EUB General Manager Brian Solsbee told board members the rate hike is needed.

Meigs graduation is Saturday morning

DECATUR - Meigs County High School will hold its annual commencement exercises this weekend with 112 seniors due to receive their diplomas during Saturday\'s graduation service that begins at 10 a.m. in the school gymnasium.

Early birds already set up for Highway 11 Antique Alley Sale

The U.S. 11 Antique Alley Sale doesn\'t officially begin until Thursday, but a few early birds are already offering their goods to early bargain hunters.
The U.S. 11 Antique Alley Sale is May 17-20 this year - it is always the four-day weekend (Thursday-Sunday) after Mother\'s Day. The 502-mile festive roadside sale will be held on U.S. Highway 11 from Meridian, Miss., to Bristol, Va.

Meigs veterans to be honored Sunday

DECATUR - At its next meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, the Meigs County Historical Society will honor all veterans with a reception at the Meigs County Historical Museum.

Memorial Day service scheduled in Meigs

DECATUR - The Meigs Color and Honor Guard will be having its annual Memorial Day service on Monday, May 28, in front of the Meigs County Courthouse in Decatur. The service will start at 11 a.m. and will last approximately one hour, with the finish by the Firing Detail, the sounding of \"Taps\" and raising of the flag to full-staff. In case of rain, the service will be conducted at the Meigs County Fairground Pavilion.
