Hazel Cate Davis, 85, of Riceville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019. Hazel was born on May 26, 1934 in Athens to the late “E.E.” and Teddy Cate. She was a lifelong resident of Riceville and a member of Cedar Springs United Methodist Church. Hazel worked as a bookkeeper for Athens Stove Works, retiring after 30-plus years, then worked for Jim Miller Excavation for another 15 years as their bookkeeper. She enjoyed spending time with her family and retail therapy a.k.a. “shopping.” She was preceded in death by her husband, John Davis. Survivors include her son, Paul (Jill C.) Davis of Ringgold, Ga.; and grandson, Benjamin Davis. A private memorial service will take place at McMinn Memory Gardens.
