Rev. Benny Joe Goodman, 71, of Sweetwater, went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2019. Benny was a loving father, a doting grandfather, and a devoted husband. He was a Baptist minister for 43 years pastoring four churches in the McMinn, Meigs and Monroe area. He was a member of Triumphant Baptist Church of Athens. Benny was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Effie (Hunt) McKeehan, Will and Lillie Jane (Atkins) Goodman; parents, Earl and Elizabeth (McKeehan) Goodman; and sister, Gail Goodman Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Sherry (Rucker) Goodman; daughter, Shannon Eaton (Mark); sons, David Goodman (Michelle), Marty Goodman (Karla) and Jessie Goodman (Brandon); stepsons, Clayton Chamlee (Lindsey), Darron Chamlee and Daris Chamlee (Julia); grandchildren, Anthony Eaton (Shannon), Lyle Eaton (Lindsey), Erin Bierley (Blake), Brittany Trevino (Jesse), Dylan Rollins (Ali), Bryston Goodman (Bre), Kaynen and Ariel Goodman and Benn Chamlee; great-grandchildren, Danielle Dunn, Hal’e Eaton, Gabe and Noah Trevino, Parker Rollins, and Lara Jade Bierley; brother, Ricky Goodman (Catherine); friend and mother of his children, Betty Goodman; mother-in-law, Shirley Raby; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tim and Donna Rucker; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Kyker Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m., with the funeral service to follow in the chapel at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Lyle Eaton, the Rev. Scott Standridge and the Rev. Jim Hanson officiating. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 1 p.m., at Sweetwater Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Lynn Tuck, David Goodman, Marty Goodman, Anthony Eaton, Dylan Rollins, Blake Bierley, Daris Chamlee, Dennis Jenkins, Adam Robinette, and Brandon Smitty. Kyker Funeral Home of Sweetwater is in charge of arrangements.
