Jerry Dewayne Fugate, 59, of Houston, Texas, and Mossel Bay, South Africa, and formerly of Calhoun, passed away on Jan. 30, 2019, while on vacation in Hong Kong with his wife, Regina. He was born on Feb. 23, 1959. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1977, and Tennessee Tech with a degree in mechanical engineering. He held a master’s degree in business and was a licensed professional engineer. He retired from Exxon-Mobile in 2017, after working in the United States, Africa, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Norway. He loved to play golf, travel the world and make trips back to Calhoun to visit family and friends. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Margaret Fugate; and his sister, Patricia Richesin. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Regina Fugate, and in-laws, Armondo and Martha Perez, all of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by sisters, Della (Phil) Liner of Charleston, and Loretta (Kenny) Purdie of Athens; brothers, Beauford (Kathy) Fugate of Riceville, and Bobby (Caroline) Fugate and Doug (Carmen) Fugate, all of Calhoun; brother-in-law, Hurshel Richesin of Riceville; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m., at Council Baptist Church in Charleston. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service time on Saturday. A private burial will be held in Calhoun Cemetery.
