Dorothy Saffell, 97, of Olathe, Kan., passed away on Oct. 14, 2019. She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and retired from First National Bank of Etowah. Dorothy was a member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church of Etowah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peeler Witt and Birdie Hicks Witt; husband, Sam H. Saffell Jr.; one son, Jimmy Sykes; five brothers; and two sisters. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and spouse, Alice Jean and Thomas M. Brown of Olathe, Kan.; three grandsons and spouses, Todd Hancock and Heather of Athens, Chris Brown of Olathe, Kan., and Drew Brown and Natasa of Sanford, Fla.; one granddaughter Misty Sykes of Naples, Fla.; one great-grandson, Seth Hancock; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Hancock. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. at Serenity of Etowah Funeral Home and Cremation Services Chapel. The visitation will begin at noon prior to the memorial service with the burial to follow at approximately 3 p.m. in Green Hill Cemetery in Etowah.
