Betty J. Whitley Myers of Riceville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 8, 2019, at her home. A native of High Point, N.C., a former resident of Orlando, Fla., and a resident of McMinn County since 1979, she was the daughter of the late D.S. Whitley and Lakey Mae Southern Whitley and was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Ann Brown; and brothers, Gary Whitley, Darrell Whitley, Jimmy Whitley, and Jack Whitley. She was a former secretary with Martin Marietta and Motorola and formerly with the Orange County Parole Board. She was a member of Miracle Deliverance Tabernacle. Survivors include her husband of over 67 years, Richard E. Myers of Riceville; one daughter and son-in-law, D. Michele Myers Pegg and husband, Larry, of Greer, S.C.; one son, Ricky Myers of Riceville; two grandchildren, Jessica Kelley Howard and Samantha N. Pegg; and two great-grandchildren, William Hunter Howard and Adeline Cheyanne Ruth. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Miracle Deliverance Tabernacle with Brother Anthony Wynn officiating. The body will lie in-state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hammonds Cemetery. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
