Daniel Gene Hilts Sr., 58, of Athens, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at Parkwest Medical Center. A native of Rome, N.Y., and a longtime resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late Eugene Frances Hilts and was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Pruett Hilts. He was an electrician by trade and most recently was employed with Lowe’s. He was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Riceville. Survivors include his mother, Janet Deraway of Ventura, Calif.; three daughters and one son-in-law, Tonya and Alex Cain of Riceville, Tina Hilts of Riceville, and Tiona Hilts of Riceville; one son, Daniel Hilts II of Athens; stepchildren, Christin and Justin Henderson of Athens, and Rachel Barry of Harriman; grandchildren, Dashawn, David, Jayden, Tyra, Alisha, Isacc, Asia and Deven; three sisters, Denise Hilts, Gladys Hilts, and Debbie Hilts; two brothers, Jason Evans and Joe Hilts; his fiancée, Sandra Beach of Athens; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Delano Cemetery with Eddie Hyde officiating. Pallbearers will be Alex Gain, Brent Rogers, David Cain, Dashawn Hilts, Elijah Evans and Joe Peck.
