David Allen Surprise Sr., 71, of Sweetwater, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2020, with his family members by his side. He lived in Connecticut for most of his life before relocating to Tennessee in 2013. He was a United States Marine during the Vietnam era. He was self-employed for many years. He enjoyed the Dukes of Hazzard, John Wayne and collecting Hess Trucks and John Deere items. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Parron Surprise; father, George Napolean Surprise; and sister, Martha Elizabeth Daniels. He is survived by his loving wife, Susanne Surprise of Sweetwater; sister, Marianne Vallee of Richmond, Mass.; one son; David A. Surprise Jr. of Putham, Conn.; one daughter, Brenda Lee Trembley and husband, Raymond Trembley Sr., of Athens; three grandsons, Nicholas Adams, Raymond Trembley Jr., and Riley Surprise; one granddaughter, Heather Jean Trembley; one great-grandson, Jackson Adams; and many nieces and nephews and numerous other extended family members. A service honoring his military service will take place on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Athens VFW, located at 706 Congress Parkway.
