Niota announces hog raffle, Christmas light winners

The City of Niota drew names for its Hog Raffle recently and the winner is Brian Lewis. The hog was donated to the city by Mel and Jennie Cagle. The proceeds from the raffle were raised to help fund the outdoor city stage that is planned to be built in the grassy area between city hall and the library. Mayor Lois Preece stated the stage “will be used for many functions such as plays, concerts, church services, our Fried Green Tomato Festival, etc.” People wanting to donate funds, materials or assist in the building of the stage should contact Niota City Hall at 423-568-2584. Niota also had a Christmas Home Decoration drawing for its city residents. As long as the resident had some type of decoration displayed at their home to spread the Christmas cheer, they were eligible to put their name in the drawing. Six winners were announced who will receive gift cards for various goods in the area. The winners are Heidi Wallace, John Seiler, Rita Stamey, Charles Sparks, Nina Lones and Billy Vestal.
