The Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Tennessee will be at Etowah Carnegie Library on Thursday, March 14, from 3-6 p.m., for an informational session.

The library is located at 723 Ohio Avenue in Etowah.

4-H Junior Camp sign up for students in grades 4-6 in McMinn County and Athens will be held on Friday, March 15, at the UT Extension Office, located at 107 West College Street in Athens.

Sign up will begin at 9 a.m. and spots are limited to 43. Junior Camp is an overnight camp and is held at the Clyde Austin 4-H Center in Greeneville. Camp dates are June 3-7.

The cost of camp includes transportation, lodging, meals, and activities. The cost is $340 per camper, but a $100 discount will be given on sign up day only.

The Pilot Club of Athens will be hosting a fundraiser at the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum on Saturday, March 16, at 10:30 a.m.

The event is Game Day. Guests are encouraged to bring some friends and play their favorite games. Brunch will be served at 10:30 a.m. and games begin at 11 a.m.. Snacks and drinks will be served throughout the day, with games finishing at 2 p.m. There will also be door prizes.

All proceeds will help fund the club’s yearly projects. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased from any Pilot Club of Athens member or by calling TeAnna McKinney at 423-506-6551.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint at the intersection of Highway 305 and County Road 218 at 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.

T he scheduled checkpoint is contingent upon manpower and weather conditions.

The Athens Parks & Recreation Department has announced the meeting for the 25th Athens Tennessee Soap Box Derby will be held on Monday, March 18, at 6 p.m., in the courtroom at the Athens Municipal Building, located at 815 North Jackson Street.

Anyone aged 7-18 who is interested in participating in the 2019 race should attend this meeting.

During the meeting, a stock and super stock car will be available for viewing and the car clinic schedule will be announced, along with the procedure for entering the race.

The Athens Tennessee Soap Box Derby will be held on June 1 on Keith Lane. Athens will be hosting races in stock, super stock, and super kids divisions. The division winners will proceed to race in the 82nd running of the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio from July 14-20.

There will be a fundraiser movie night at the Athens Movie Palace on Monday, March 25 at 6 p.m. The movie will be “25 Hill,” starring Corbin Bernsen, which is a story of an 11-year-old boy’s journey making it to the All-American Soap Box Derby. Admission tickets will be $5 and DVD’s will also be for sale. All ticket sales will go towards the Athens Soap Box Derby.

The Southeast Tennessee Human Resource Agency (SETHRA) is currently accepting applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

The program year ends on Sept. 30. Anyone who wants to apply for the program may do so by calling the SETHRA office at 423-334-3305 to schedule an appointment. Any client who needs to apply for emergency LIHEAP will also need to schedule an appointment.
