A meeting will be held Monday in regard to a pair of opportunities to travel.

Patricia Compton has been taking trips through Education First (EF) Educational Tours since 1998 and is holding a meeting for an upcoming event on Monday, March 11, from 6-8 p.m. at E.G. Fisher Public Library.

The travel opportunities will be Summer of 2020 to Peru (Machu Picchu, sand surfing, salt mines) and Summer of 2021 to Japan (hot springs with monkeys).

“My first trip was in 1998 to New York and then trips to Ireland, London, Paris, Rome, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii,” Compton said. “I have had kids as young as seven to men and women as old at 78 travel. We enjoy going off of the beaten path to find new sites. I believe that traveling helps us appreciate what we have and helps us see the world; experience the beauty along with the marvels and secrets only realized once one is fully immersed in another culture.”

Compton added that she has seen a lot of impact from the trips she has gone on.

“Over the years I have had students go back for grad school in Australia, change their ideas about the world, change career goals, get engaged (and are still married) and build bonds with other students that are still growing today,” she said. “The most amazing thing, though, is seeing a person’s eyes light up when they see a site they’ve only seen in pictures, breath the air, rub elbows with locals, and try food that might be gross but still something new.”

If anyone is interested in a trip, but can’t make it to the meeting, they can contact Compton at Comptons23@bellsouth.net.
