Clifford Elick \"C.E.\" Armstrong, 87, of Etowah, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 22, 2013, at a local healthcare facility.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, C.E. was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, specifically in the Philippines and Okinawa in the Pacific Theatre. He enjoyed farming, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Ruth Armstrong; parents, Ernest and Janie Newman Armstrong; sister, Zoni Moore; and brother, George William Armstrong.
He is survived by children, Dianne Shell of Etowah, Chris Armstrong and wife, Laura, of Etowah, and Amber Banks and husband, Bobby, of Etowah; grandchildren, Melissa Lowe and husband, Frankie, of Etowah, Ryan Armstrong and wife, Brandi, of Athens, Leslie Sharp and husband, Trey, of Cleveland, Alexandria Lexi Williams, Tyler Williams, and Chelsea Banks, all of Etowah; great-grandchildren, Tearyn \"Lacey\" Roberts, Kennedy, Preston and Bennett Armstrong, and Sidney Sharp; and sister, Elizabeth Miller of Etowah. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends also survive.
A celebration of the life of Mr. C.E. Armstrong will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Maples officiating. Military honors will conclude the services.
Interment will be private.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Englewood Children\'s Ministry; or to the Keith Memorial United Methodist Church Children\'s Ministry.
