Bruce Alvin Delmas, 79, a resident of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013.
He had made Athens his home for the past 20-plus years, moving here from New Jersey. Bruce was born in Mile City, Mont., on May 25, 1934, a son of the late George and Ruth Delmas. Bruce was a retired structural iron worker with over 35 years before retirement from the Local 373 in New Jersey. He was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, a Mason and member of the Meridian Sun Lodge No. 50, a member of the Athens Elks Lodge, past president of the Chilhowee Shrine and active in the McMinn Senior Activity Center. Bruce was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army after faithfully serving his country during the Korean War. His hobbies included playing the guitar, motorcycles and woodworking, to name a few.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was also preceded in death by one sister, Beverly; one brother, Richard; and one grandson, Michael Gilluly.
Bruce leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of more than 30 years, Carolyn Renee Delmas; one daughter, Lori Iorio and her husband, Sam; one stepdaughter, Lori Cinelli and her husband, Jay; one stepson, Danny Murphy and his wife, Claire; and eight grandchildren, Johnathan Penn, Taylor and Anthony Cinelli, Casey, Christopher, Katie and Sammy Iorio, and Daniel Liam Murphy. He is also survived by numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Friday, Dec. 27, at 7 p.m. at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 800 Decatur Pike in Athens.
