Ralph \"R.L.\" Haney, 96, of Etowah, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at NHC of Athens.
A native of McMinn County, he was a member of Wesleyanna United Methodist Church and Etowah Masonic Lodge 653. R.L. was a retired brakeman with L&N Railroad and he taught the Adult Men\'s Sunday School Class for many years. He was an ordained speaker, a member of Scottish Rite, the historical society and an active member of Contact for many years. He was also on the board of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) and a big supporter of Greeneville Children\'s Home.
A son of the late George and Della Elizabeth \"Haney\" Haney, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Emma Sue Haney; daughter, Jane Hale; grandson, Tim Cain; three brothers; two sisters; and son-in-law, Ronnie Cain.
Survivors include daughters, Gail Cain of Etowah, and Glenda Wallace of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Cindy Buckner and Bobby of Athens, Greg Cain and Patty of Etowah, Jeff Cain of Cleveland, Neal Wallace of Cleveland, and Heather Farley of Chattanooga; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. John Roberson and the Rev. John Crabtree officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home and proceed to Green Hill Cemetery on Monday, Sept. 2, for the 10 a.m. committal service.
