Leslie \"The Blind Guy\" Blackwelder, 49, of Athens, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville.
He was born in Sarasota, Fla., on May 29, 1964. He was known around town as the blind guitar player that played in the band Smooth Sailin\' with his nephew and best friend, Ken Keaton. He had been a musician since the age of two. He touched everyone\'s heart through music, because music was his passion. He will be sadly missed by family and friends, but he will forever remain in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard R. Blackwelder.
Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Carol Blackwelder; his mother, Hilda Blackwelder; his grandmother, Evelyn Drymon; three daughters, Krysta Kyle, Nicole Blackwelder and Amanda Blackwelder; one son, Michael Bornes; two grandchildren, Dakota Kyle and Addison Blackwelder; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Stanley Blackwelder of Athens, Bill and Roxanne Blackwelder of Ellenton, Fla., and Don and Tammy McCourt of Athens; one nephew, Billy Blackwelder Jr. of Athens; five nieces; three uncles and aunts, John and Cindy Drymon, Marvin and Susan Drymon and Ronnie and Kathy Drymon, all of Florida; several cousins and many friends.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
