Madison \"Matt\" Grady Harris, 77, of Sweetwater, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.
A native of Harlan, Ky., he had lived in Michigan for many years, and was most recently a resident of McMinn County for the past 11 years. He was a son of the late Dewey McGrady Harris and Vella Smith Spurlock.
He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a lifetime member and Past Commander of VFW 5146. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea and Vietnam. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 43 years and was of the Protestant faith.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois \"Peggy\" Virginia Carver Harris, one stepdaughter, Lisa Catlett; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Tina Maria Harris Hall of Ringgold, Ga., Michelle Dianne Harris Buckle of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lisa Beth Harris Bergeron of Baton Rouge, La.; two sons, Steven Gregory Harris of Columbus, Ga., and Madison Grady Harris Jr. of Phenix City, Ala.; four stepsons, Walt Higdon and his wife, Evetta, and Roger Higdon, all of Athens, Lonnie Martin and his wife, Beth, of Floralla, Fla., and Marty Catlett of Panama City Beach, Fla.; one sister, Stella Faye Lenoir of Lancaster, Ky.; four grandchildren, Christopher Harris, Chelsea Pool-Blair, Ryan J. Harris and Angie Higdon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Ziegler Funeral Home, with the burial following in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
