Franklin L. \"Tony\" Stillwell, 77, a lifelong resident of Polk County, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at an Etowah health care facility.
He was of the Protestant faith and was retired from Bowater Newsprint after 20 years of service. He was passionate about country music, especially the Grand Ole Opry. His favorite artists included Johnny Cash, Porter Wagoner and George Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge L. Roy Stillwell and Ruth Harper Stillwell.
Survivors include three children, James Stillwell and his wife, Vivian, of Lexington, Ky., Joe \"R.J.\" Stillwell of Nashville, and Jeff Stillwell of New York City, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Daniel Stillwell and his wife, Jessica, Rebekah Reynolds and her husband, Chris, Katie Stillwell and her partner Austin, Chloe Stillwell and Garrett Stillwell; one great-grandchild, Charleigh Duval; one brother, John Stillwell and his wife, Sharion, of Benton; several nieces and one nephew.
Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Green Hill Cemetery with Dr. James Stillwell officiating. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Stillwell, Garrett Stillwell, Austin Duval, Chris Reynolds, Naaman Stillwell and Albert Howard.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home and will then proceed in processional to the cemetery for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 200 Central Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403; or to St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
