James \"Jim\" W. Poe, 77, of Englewood, and formerly of Sweetwater, died Saturday, March 23, 2013.
He was a member of True Gospel Baptist Church of Sweetwater and was a well-known minster and farmer in Monroe and Loudon counties.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Hunt Poe; one infant daughter, Donna Kay Poe; his parents, Hubert and Elja Poe; one brother, Harold Poe; and one grandson, Zachery Shultz.
Survivors include his wife, Mary I. Paige-Poe of Englewood; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Carrie Poe of Philadelphia, Danny and Lisa Poe of Sweetwater, and Alan and Jeannie Paige of Athens; two daughters and one son-in-law, Elja and Darrell Vann of Sweetwater, and Judy Hemphill of Englewood; grandchildren, Russell and Laura Poe and Donna and Johnny Duncan, all of Loudon, Andy and Katie Poe, Chris and Anna Poe, Felicia and Jody Gaston and Ross Poe, all of Sweetwater, Allison and Chris Everhart of Riceville, Gail and Andy Burchfield of Decatur, Allen and Casay Vann of Loudon, and Alex Shultz of Athens; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Leonard and Sherry Poe of Philadelphia, and Gary Poe of Sweetwater; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Earline Coppenger of Sweetwater, Reva Worley of Goode, Va., and Wilma and R.W. Edgemon of Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kyker Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Sam Loy and the Rev. Jim Henry officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.
