Born in Athens on Sept. 9, 1931, he was a son of the late Doc Hubert and Arbie Benton Wilson. Although he was a native of McMinn County, he resided most of his life in Bradley County, where he was a well-known plumber in the Cleveland and Bradley County area for many years. He was of the Baptist faith and known as a prayer warrior and man of faith by his family and friends. He gave back to his community and the Lord by driving the church bus for Faith Memorial Church for almost 40 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and farmer, but will be most remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Hubert Wilson; four sisters, Thelma Everrett, Lois Shelton, Ora Morrow and Lela Lewis; and two brothers, Roy Wilson and Chester \"Check\" Wilson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 58 years, Evelyn Marshall Wilson; two daughters, Debbie Eldredge and her husband, Ed, of Cleveland, and Lisa Garr and her husband, Tim, of Houston, Texas; two sons, Ricky Wilson and his wife, Janie, and Rodney Wilson, all of Cleveland; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family members and friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, at Hopewell Baptist Church, located at 188 Old Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, with the Rev. Ed Eldredge, the Rev. Zack Eldredge and the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Zack Eldredge, Ben Eldredge, Justin Wilson, Tim Garr, Randall Marshall and Larry Green.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the church and also for one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
