DeWayne Larson, 83, of Athens, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at McMinn Memorial Nursing Home.
A son of the late Harry and Nettie Back Larson, he was a native of Milwaukee, Wis., moving to this area in 1988.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from RexNord Corporation after 15 years of service. He was a member of Athens Lutheran Church and was very involved at the McMinn Senior Activity Center.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Lynne Breclaw; and one brother, Eugene Back.
Survivors include his first wife, Dolores Breit of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, David Larson and his wife, Moira, of Southwest Harbor, Maine, and James Larson of Etowah, who donated his kidney that helped extend Dad\'s life for 10 more years; one daughter, Kathlyn Ferraro of Milwaukee, Wis.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Goodwin Back of Etowah; one sister, Audrey Vogel of Crystal River, Fla.; and his little dog, \"Toby.\"
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Athens Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jace Detrie officiating.
The family will receive friends and a reception will be held after the service.
