Howard J. Cooper, 81, of Athens, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Carrie Newman Cooper, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Billy Cooper; and three sisters, Louise Lipps, Catherine Lipps and Gladys Walker. He owned and operated Cooper Contracting from 1964 to 2000.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ola Rinehart Cooper of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and David Baxter of Athens; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Shelia Cooper of Athens; two grandchildren, Heath Baxter and Bridget Willhite; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Baxter, Haley Baxter, Cooper Willhite and Rachel Willhite; and one sister, Mildred Henderson of Riceville.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McMinn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Emmitt Morgan officiating.
Pallbearers will be David Baxter, Heath Baxter, Grant Willhite, Charles Rinehart, Kelly Roy Shepherd and Jimmy Shepherd.
