Eddie L. Barnett, 74, of Englewood, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at his home.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late E.L. and Ruby Harriell Barnett and was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emmett and Edna Davis King; and one brother-in-law, Ralph King.
He retired as an engineer from CSX Transportation in Etowah and spent the last 14 years working with his son, Travis, at Middle Creek Nursery. He was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church for 64 years, where he served in several capacities.
He was a member of Manilla Lodge 633 for 51 years, where he served two terms as Worshipful Master and several years as treasurer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1964.
He enjoyed camping, following McMinn Central athletic programs and UT football, basketball, golfing, working in his garden and sharing his vegetables with his friends and neighbors, but his greatest enjoyment was following his grandchildren\'s activities.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Wanda King Barnett of Englewood; one son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Alison Barnett of Englewood; two grandchildren, Lauren and William Barnett; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Gordan Morgan of Englewood; one aunt, Dora Barnett Stone of Harrison; three brothers-in-law and spouses, Roy and Bobbye King of Wilmington, N.C., Harold King of Englewood, and Larry and Betty King of Marietta, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Shirley \"Pat\" King of Englewood; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday at Wildwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Vest and the Rev. Dennis Cagle officiating. A Masonic service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home, followed by burial in Wildwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Robby Davis, Calvin Letner, Bill Martin, Dennis King, Jason Housley and Mark Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Boyd Davis, Don Hawkins, George Thomas, Pat Torbett, Roy Grimes Sr., Bob Housley, Ray Patterson and Ray Bailey.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
