Jackie \"Jack\" David Batson, Ph.D., 81, of Athens, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
He was born in Bessemer, Ala., and attended the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa for his undergraduate degree. He earned his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Kentucky.
He served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of major. He then taught at several colleges throughout the United States. His last teaching position was at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens and he had been retired for many years.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. A memorial service will be held at Park Village Club House, located at 918 Rocky Mount Road, on Tuesday, March 5, at 7 p.m.
