William N. \"Bill\" Burris, 100, of Niota, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his residence.
A native and longtime resident of Calhoun and, most recently, of Niota, he was a son of the late John Nelson and Nannie Lou Jones Burris and was preceded in death by his wife, Delphia Burris; two infant daughters; one infant sister; three other sisters, Margaret Howard, Martha Lou Elliott and Cleo Burkhart; four brothers, Harvey Burris, Frank Burris, Ted Burris and J.D. \"Dee\" Burris; and two half-brothers, Cleatus Burris and Charlie Burris.
He retired from Magic Chef and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Meadow Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Zella and Frank Breazeale of Dexter, Ore., and Nina Burris Lankford and her husband and William\'s extra special caregiver, J.C., of Decatur; two sons and one daughter-in-law, William Curtis \"Buddy\" Burris and his wife, Annie, of Oak Ridge, Ore., and John Thomas Burris of Niota; a special grandson, David Benton and his wife, Angela, of Riceville; a special granddaughter, Cindy Wright and her husband, Charles, of Lebanon, N.H.; grandchildren, Susie Nelson of Vida, Ore., Gerald Verner and his wife, Shirley, of Springfield, Ore., Darlene Himmel and her husband, Randy, of Oak Ridge, Ore., Angel Hadley and her husband, Charles, of Tampa, Idaho, Linda McGirl and her husband, Dave, of Corvallis, Ore., Henry Burris of Oak Ridge, Ore., and Cathy Hickey and her husband, Donald, of Springfield, Ore.; a special great-granddaughter, Beth Benton; a special great-grandson, Jonathan Benton; several other great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Paul Reece Burris and his wife, Margaret, of Calhoun, and Joe Burris and his special friend, Bonnie Slack, both of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Meadow Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Ingram and the Rev. Roy Hogan officiating. The body will lie in-state from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Meadow Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Burris, Billy Key, Bud Walker, Kenneth Crady, R.L. Hicks and Doug Keel. Jonathan Benton will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
