James Farley Miller, 86, of Etowah, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, following a brief stay at Brakebill Nursing Home.



A resident of Etowah for most of his life, he served in the U.S. Navy for two years and later retired from DuPont in Chattanooga. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and walking. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he once served as elder.



His final years were spent in Lenoir City at Baptist Health Care Assisted Living and, most recently, Elmcroft of West Knoxville Heartland Village.



Our deepest gratitude to all the staff who so lovingly cared for him over the past four years.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Oleva Burger White and William J. Miller; his wives, Mary Helen Masden and Jane Ethridge Cobb; and his siblings, Vida Mae Rucker, Nina Miller Majors, Nora Lee Miller Tatum, Hubert White, John Miller, Harry Miller, Charles Miller and Fred Miller.



Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Gay Miller and Chris and Margaret Miller; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Rose Cobb Anders and her husband, Kent; grandchildren and their spouses, Dea Miller and Scott Rice, Gina Miller and Jeremy Headrick, Kate Miller-Bains and her husband, Adam, and Julie Miller; step-grandchildren and one spouse, Cristi Anderson, Tripp Stevens and Tucker and Abigail Anders; and three great-grandchildren.



Funeral services were noon Monday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Pierce officiating. Burial followed in Cochran Cemetery with military honors.



The family received friends from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.
