Herman Earl Duggan, 94, a lifelong resident of Charleston, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at a local healthcare facility.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston for 61 years, and was a member of Pile Drivers-Tri-State Carpenters Local 74 in Chattanooga. He enjoyed farming and gardening and he was always sharing vegetables with neighbors and family. The joy of his life was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Chloe Liner Duggan; infant children, Nancy and Mark; son, Doug Duggan; son-in-law, Houston \"Cotton\" Shamblin; sisters, Ozelle Shipe and Vera White; and brothers, Clarence, Grady, Woodrow, Melvin, Ed and Charles Dee Duggan.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Myrtle Robinson Duggan; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Phyllis Shamblin, Kathy Duggan, Janet and Larry Newport and Robin and Steve Blankenship; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Gayle Duggan, John and Deborah Duggan and Larry and Mary Ann \"Tootie\" Duggan; one daughter-in-law, Ann Duggan; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jean Duggan of Sweetser, Ind.; 16 grandchildren and spouses, Barbie and Lynn Davis, Joy and Mark Gaston, Laura and Wayne Reynolds, Sherry and Tracy Maxfield, Stacey and Lori Duggan, Penny and Chip Howell, Kevin and TeriLyn Duggan, Johnny and Kellie Duggan, Jason and Lisa Duggan, Jacob Duggan, Joseph Duggan, Julie and Josh Melton, Jay and Lori Newport, Steven Blankenship, Greg Blankenship and David Blankenship and his fiancée, Amanda; great-grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer and Greg Cross, Valarie Reynolds, Alicia and Matt Sloan, Justin Reynolds, Jessica and Matt Russell, Bruce Gaston, Brandon Bryant, Bayleigh Bryant, Alex Bryant, Summer Duggan, Haley Sharpe, Cody Duggan, Ryann Duggan, Rebecca and Brad Donegon, Megan Howell, Nick Howell, Briana Howell, Tyler Davis, Allie Davis, Keller Melton, Calie Melton, Hunter Newport, Jackie Newport, Tucker Powell and Hayden Rankin; and great-great grandchildren, Warren Cross, Madison Perry, Taylor Sloan, Savannah Gaston and Shelby, Zain and Gage Russell.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. John Robinson of Ohio and the Rev. Harrill Millsaps officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
