James Earl Hutsell, 90, of Decatur and formerly of Athens, died on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at McGregor Assisted Living in Cleveland, Ohio.
A native of McMinn County and the son of the late Holloway and Daisy Shoemaker Hutsell, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie McGuire Hutsell, to whom he was married for 67 years. He was also prececed in death by a son, James Greg Hutsell; and a grandson, Randy Perry. He was of the Methodist faith and had been associated with B&O Railroad as a traveling agent, retiring after 45 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jonathan Whittaker of Shaker Heights, Ohio; one granddaughter, Jenny Freeman; two grandsons, Greg and Jeff Hutsell; and six great-grandchildren, Mikayla Perry, Mathew Perry, Savannah Hutsell, Sarah Hutsell, C.J. Freeman and Sam Freeman.
Funeral services will 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeremy MacMurray officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Whittaker, Greg Hutsell, Mathew Perry, Dub Spurlin, Dennis Shell and Harold Idol.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
