James Mancel \"Mack\" McKinney

James Mancel \"Mack\" McKinney, 82, of Englewood, died on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center.



A native of Riceville and a longtime resident of Athens, he was a son of the late Lester and Inez Womac McKinney. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Hammond; and a brother-in-law, Ray Gene Swafford. Mack founded McKinney Excavating Incorporated in 1957. He was a member of the Alhambra Shriners where he served on the motor patrol. He was also a member of the musical group The Country Sounds.



Survivors include one daughter, Jamie McKinney of Knoxville; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Mari McKinney of Athens; six grandchildren, Katryn McKinney, Luke McKinney, Breanna McKinney, Madilyn McKinney, Stewart Wilkerson and his wife, Lindsey, and Hunter Wilkerson; one sister, Emma Lou Swafford of Decatur; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Sherry McKinney of Niota; one brother-in-law, Marvin Hammond of Athens; one aunt, Geneva Moses of Athens; nieces and nephew, Remonda Swafford-Alleyne, Dee-Dee Klein, Shawna Brazzell and Dustin McKinney; and caregiver, Grant Boucher Pellissier.



Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Athens with Dr. Jason Clark officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Upper Spring Creek Cemetery in Riceville.



Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Ferguson, Wayne Covington, Tony Jackson, Sidney Kean, Ron Michaels, David Holland, Dan Sheffey and Melvin Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Benton, Jim Benton and Don Shelton.



The family of Mack McKinney will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the church.



In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Children\'s Hospital, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502.
