Herman Woody, 88, of Ten Mile passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at his home.
A member of Lakeside Baptist Church where he led the choir for years, he was preceded in death by his parents, W.F. Woody and Nettie Walker Woody; four brothers, Martin, W.F., Hubert and Bruce Woody; and one sister, Nell Woody Sharp. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from the Meigs County Board of Education. He enjoyed raising and showing Bantams chickens. Accomplishments include Life Achievement Award of the American Bantam Association; to obtain this level you must have accumulated 20 gold star wins or their equivalent at sanctioned shows of the ABA - this means that your birds have defeated at least 40,000 birds.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Lee Russell Woody of Ten Mile; one son, Gerald Woody of Ten Mile; one sister, Helen Woody of Ten Mile; one sister-in-law, Bernice Woody of Ten Mile; and one brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Trish Woody of Powell.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Duggan officiating. Burial will follow in Mt Zion Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harrell Bidwell, Ricky Bivens, Eddie Bivens, Greg Buckner, Mark Erwin, Danny Wattenbarger, Ray Ratledge and Bill Woody. Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Edgemon, Richard Boggess, B. Edgemon, Steve Miller, Gene Wade, C.L. Swafford and Ray Melton.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund c/o Patricia Crabtree, 22 Upper Concord Road, Ten Mile, TN 37880; or the Meigs County Retired Teachers Association.
