Orville P. \"Pat\" Vernor, 78, of Spring City, died on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at his residence.
Born in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Benjamin and Anna Welsh Vernor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his enlistment in Germany. A machinist, he retired from Murray Manufacturing after 35 years of service. He and his wife, Edna, moved to the Spring City community 30 years ago. He was a member of the American Legion Post 203 and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben Vernor Jr. and James Vernor; three sisters, Louise, Mae and Eva; three brothers-in-law, Austin, Oscar and Glen Roberts; one sister-in-law, Viola; his mother-in-law, Mamie Carter; and his father-in-law, Joe Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Edna Roberts Vernor of Spring City; one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Jerry Dorfman of Spring City; dog friends \"Tippie\" and \"Dusty\"; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeromy Branhan officiating. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ten Mile Cemetery in Ten Mile.
Pallbearers will be John Roberts, Greg Roberts, Jason Roberts, Jonathan Roberts, Allen Roberts, Jimmy Roberts, Adam Roberts and Tony Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Dwight Mathis and Jerry Morgan.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
