Chester \"Bill\" Rush, 85, of Ocoee, was ushered by the angels into the presence of Jesus on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, with his family present.
He was a much-loved and faithful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and soldier for Christ. He had bravely confronted and fought Parkinson\'s and Alzheimer\'s diseases. He was also a survivor of bladder cancer. He was born on April 14, 1927, in Polk County and resided in Ocoee for the past 54 years.
He was in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. He retired from Bowater after 35 years of employment, and he was admired as a faithful member and deacon of Smyrna Baptist Church for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jawaun Rush; his parents, James Park and Vinnie Mantooth Rush; four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Frances Kinser Rush of Ocoee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Devonna and Randy Tomlinson of Cleveland and Tawnya and Ron Davis of Benton; one son, Wesley Rush of Ocoee; his grandchildren, Matthew and Valynn Yates of Cleveland, and Tyler, Tanner, Haley and Hanna Davis, all of Benton; one sister, Geneva Rush of Cleveland; one brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Beverly Rush of Old Fort; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Smyrna Baptist Church with Pastors Charles Cheatham, David Evans and Jim Parm officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery and conclude with a white dove release ceremony.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Yates, Tyler Davis, Tanner Davis, Brandon Barnes, Theron Kinser and Lee Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Barnes, Billy Ray Goode, Pat Kinser, Ray Cavett, Jim Smith, Ralph Jones and Clyde Nail.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Smyrna Baptist Church, P.O. Box 61, Ocoee, TN 37361.
