G. Ralph Hobbs, 71, of Athens, died on Tuesday morning, Jan. 15, 2013, at his residence.

A native of Sullivan County and longtime resident of Athens, he was a son of the late Gladstone W. and Eliza Gardner Hobbs, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Coy Lynn Hobbs. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, and had been the supervisor of the Headstart-Family Resources Agency until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Beam Hobbs of Athens; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tara Elizabeth and Neil Hensley of Unicoi, Colo., and Rachel Leigh Hobbs of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and one sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bobby Greenlee of Greeneville.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church, 269 County Road 516, Etowah, TN 37331.
