Mae Emma Cox Dickerson, 77, of Athens, died on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at a local hospital.
She was a member of Cox Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and was a graduate of J.L. Cook High School, where she was captain of the state champion basketball team. She attended Chattanooga School of Cosmetology and was formerly employed at Beaumont Fibers in Etowah, and Thomas & Betts in Athens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Cox; her husband, David Dickerson; one son, Tyrone Dunlap; and one sister, Virginia Jo Pryor.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Dunlap and Lisa Dunlap, both of Athens; one grandson, Derrick Dowell of Athens; one great-grandson, Derrick Dowell Jr. of Athens; three sisters, Irene Cox and Rachel Robinson, both of Athens, and Helen Collier of Englewood; three brothers, Cottrell Brown of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Cox Jr. of Athens, and Dan Cox of Etowah; one aunt, Oggie Mae McDermott of Athens; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Monday in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Leuty McDermott officiating. Burial will follow in Hammond Cemetery in Athens.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
