Marchel Brown, 83, of Etowah, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 9, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center.



He was born Feb. 17, 1929. He was a native of Polk County and a resident of McMinn County. He was an elder at First Christian Church of Etowah and was a man of very strong faith who loved his church.



A veteran of the Korean War, he worked as a skilled printer at the Miami Herald and Chattanooga Times Free Press and was retired from Johns Manville. His proudest accomplishment was his family.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Hester and Norris Brown; and two brothers, Doyle and Edward Brown.



Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lola Josephine Brown; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Patricia and Paul Pratt of Athens, Dianne and Keith Martin and Kim and Gary Frazier, all of Etowah, Kelly Harrop of Athens, and Scott Harrop of Lenoir City; nine grandchildren, Lori Newman, Danielle Gibson, Rylan Pratt, Jace Pratt, Cody Martin, Michael Martin, Jake Frazier, Luke Frazier and Molly Harrop; three great-grandchildren, John Newman, Clara Newman and Anna Newman; one sister, Dimple Smith; two brothers, Ronnie Brown and James Brown, both of Dalton, Ga.; and several much loved nieces and nephews.



A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at First Christian Church of Etowah.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church of Etowah.
