Betty Eileen Hicks Garrison, 59, of Gansevoort, N.Y., departed this life on Thursday, morning, Jan. 3, 2013, after a long, bravely fought battle with cancer.
A very loving and devoted wife and mother, Betty was cherished by all who knew her. Even during difficult times, she always had words of encouragement and a bright smile. A native of Reliance, Betty was the granddaughter of the late Jack and Patsy Hicks and John and Lissie Pike. She was also preceded in death by her father, William Jesse Hicks; her father-in-law, Charles Peter Garrison; and one brother, Harlis Hicks.
Survivors include her husband, Patrick Garrison of Gansevoort, N.Y.; two sons, Ryan and Logan Garrison, both of Gansevoort, N.Y.; her mother, Bertha Hicks of Etowah; her mother-in-law, Carolyn Garrison of Edwardsville, Ill.; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Jane and Tim Hicks of Benton, Alice and Sherman Derrick of Reliance, Jessie and Spencer Melton of Etowah, Billie and Dave Bledsoe of Chattanooga, Bonnie Hicks of Etowah, and Connie Hicks of Murphy, N.C.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Joe and Marcie Hicks of Clevleand, and L.B. Hicks of Reliance; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Hill Funeral Home. In addition, a memorial service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Towee Baptist Church in Reliance.
Sunset Hill Funeral Home of Glen Carbon, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
