Barbara F. Brantley, 70, of Athens, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at her residence.
She was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County and attended McMinn County High School. She was a longtime member of Hilltop Baptist Church and was retired from Athens Products. She was an avid Tennessee Vols fan, loved gardening, the outdoors, and spending time with her family.¬�She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Kathleen Duncan Cook; and three brothers, Eugene, Robert and Ray Cook.¬�
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Onis Brantley of Athens; one son, Jeff Brantley of Cleveland; one daughter, Melanie Stephens and her husband, Chad, of Niota; grandchildren, Megan Brantley of Bristol, Joel and Trevor Brantley, both of Cleveland, and Ciara and Chloe Stephens, both of Niota; three sisters, Anna Wicker and her husband, Lynn, of Niota, Pauline Martin and her husband, Jim, of Chattanooga, and Jo Anne Dale of Rossville, Ga.; four brothers, Ralph Cook, Gary Cook and his wife, Jana, and Glen Cook and his wife, Reba all of Cleveland, and Charles Cook and his wife, Jean, of Chattanooga; and several nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hilltop Baptist Church in Riceville with the Rev. Jim Elliot and the Rev. Jimmy Barlow officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens with Ralph Cook, Gary Cook, Charles Cook, Glen Cook, Joel Brantley and Trevor Brantley serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service.
