Carl Glenn Burger, 79, of Delano, passed away Tuesday night, Dec. 18, 2012, at a Cleveland hospital surrounded by his family.
A lifelong resident of the Delano Community, he was a son of the late Mack and Estelle Cornett Burger of Cambria. He was employed by the Bowater Southern Paper Co. for 38 years as a millwright before retiring several years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Hendrix Burger of Etowah; and two sisters, Lillie Mae Johnson of Englewood and Nora Lee Houston of Nashville.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Louise Burger of Delano; two daughters, Sue Sampson of Ooltewah and Carol Pettijohn of Delano; grandchildren, Heath Sampson of Ooltewah and Monica and Chris Pettijohn of Delano; great-granddaughter, Shelby Sampson of Ooltewah; brother, Darrell Burger of Chattanooga; sister, Willie Rae McMillon of Chattanooga; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral service were 7 p.m. Thursday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Curtis officiating.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.
Family and friends assembled at Bordwine Funeral Home at noon Friday and proceeded to Green Hill Cemetery for the 1 p.m. committal service.
Pallbearers were Heath Sampson, Chris Pettijohn, Jason Cordell, Klay Higdoh, Dale Smith and Doug Davis. Honorary pallbearers and lifelong friends are Ed Bain, Richard Roberson, Dennis Burchfield, Joe Dean Lanning, Jim Rhome, Jim Garren, T.A. Gutherie and August Lee.
