Shannon Vernice Phillips Thurman, 57, of Niota, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 20, 2012, at her residence.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Ollie and Elsie Coleman Phillips, and was preceded in death by her father-in-law, William Thurman. She was a former employee of Davidson Textron and retired from First National Bank, and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Decatur.
She was a loving wife of 40 years, a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, William Carl Thurman of Niota; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tracy and Jennifer Thurman of Athens, and Travis Thurman of Decatur; one daughter, Maddie Thurman of Niota; five grandchildren, Sierra, Olivia, Trenton, Abby and MaKayla; one sister, Missy Phillips Griffin of Decatur; and one brother, Thomas Phillips of Morristown.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Burial will be noon Saturday in Rogers Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
