Franklin Lewis Wood, 71, of Niota, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, in Franklin, N.C.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Milburn and Velma Fritts Wood, and was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Cranfield Wood; a son, Victor Lebron \"Butch\" Wood; and two brothers, Robert and Wayne Wood. He was retired from Johnson Controls where he had worked as a machine operator and was a member of Valley Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include a special friend, Brenda Lovelace; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Joan and James Robison of Athens, Janice and Mike Robison of Athens, Judy and Mike Smith of Athens, Carolyn Martin of Athens, and Rhonda and Matt Savage of Sweetwater; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Roy and Sandra Wood of Athens, Larry Wood of Athens, Timmy and Faye Wood of Madisonville, and Donald Wood of Athens; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Jackson officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Valley Road Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Wood, Jason Robison, Chris Robison, James Robison, Jimmy Morgan, James \"Meatball\" Morgan and Michael Smith.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
