Douglas \"Doug\" Franklin Elder, 45, of Athens, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at his residence.
A native and former resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., and resident of Athens for more than 35 years, he was a son of the late Keith and Lucy Coy Elder, and was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Larson; and a brother, Calvin Elder. He was a graduate of McMinn County High School and was owner/operator of Elder Electric. He attended Everlasting Life Baptist Church in Englewood.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Elder of Riceville and her fiancé, Jacob King, of Englewood; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Linda Dillion of Loxahatchee, Fla., Teresa and Kevin Stewart of Loxahatchee, Fla., and Sharon and Rick Hale of Decatur; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Cheryl Elder of Athens, and Roger and Lori Elder of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his former wife, Teresia Greene Elder of Riceville; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with Pastor Van Sliger officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m Sunday at God\'s Storehouse of Blessings Cemetery in Riceville.
Pallbearers will be Charles Carr, Tyler Crittenden, Wes Crittenden, Jacob King, Josh King and Billy Watson.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
