Clyde Doyle Bowman Sr., 79, of Ocala, Fla., and formerly of Decatur, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at his home in Ocala, Fla. with loving and dedicated family members by his side. Clyde Doyle Sr. sadly lost his battle of one year to cancer.



He was born in Meigs County on Feb. 3, 1933, and was the first child and son of the late Enloe and Narcie Sneed Bowman, as well as the step-son of the late Mattie Stokes Bowman. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bobby Emory; and one brother, Earl Bowman.



He had an adventurous childhood growing up in Decatur. At the age of 18, seeking employment, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, eventually working as a brakeman for the Nickel Plate Railroad that merged with the Norfolk and Western Railroad.



He married his lifelong partner, Gerrie Louderback, from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1953. Together, they raised four beautiful children, Rebecca Ann, Clyde Jr., Carl DeWayne, and Elizabeth Ann.



Due to health issues, he retired from the railroad in 1976. The family moved in 1977 to sunny Ocala, Fla., spending the next 35 years in the freedom of the Florida sunshine and warm weather that he loved.



Survivors include his loyal wife of 60-plus years, Gerrie Louderback Bowman of Ocala, Fla.; his heartbroken children, Rebecca A. Hodges and her husband, Larry, of Medina, Ohio, Carl D. Bowman and his wife, Carmen, of Summerfield, Fla., and Liz Bowman Hickcox and her husband, Byran, of Land O\' Lakes, Fla.; his affectionate grandchildren, Chelsea Bing, Carl Jr. \"Bo\" and his wife, Jessica, Jesse Hodges, Amanda Shearer, Ashley Scott and her husband, Reggie, Kacey Shearer and Selina (Grandpa\'s little petunia flower); great-grandchildren, Mazey Deuelley, Reggie, Emily and Jacob Bowman Scott and Carlee Grace Bowman; two brothers, Burl Bowman and his wife, Clara, of Knoxville, and B.T. Bowman and his wife, Sherry, of Decatur; two sisters, Jurl Lovelace of Knoxville, and Patty Jo Waller and her husband, Junior, of Decatur; three half-brothers, Allen Bowman and his wife, Janice, and Tony Bowman and his wife, Debbie, all of Decatur, and Alvin Bowman and his wife, Dana, of Riceville; three half-sisters, Mary Farmer and her husband, Charlie, Linda Lamb and her husband, Johnny, and Peggy Bowman, all of Decatur; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.



The family would like to thank all for their kindness.



Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with Lee Ricker officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.



The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests that modest donations be made in the name of Clyde to the Decatur Kingdom Hall of Jehovah\'s Witnesses, c/o J.C. Roach, 2512 Armstrong Ferry Rd., Decatur, TN 37322.
