James Stephen McNutt, 77, of Athens, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2012.



A native of Athens and a lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Grover Woodrow and Edna Lee Walker McNutt, and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Frank McNutt.



He was of the Baptist faith and was a retiree of Bowater\'s Mechanical Department in 1997, after working 42 years for the company. He also served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve.



He was an avid Tennessee football and Lady Vols fan for many years. He was a graduate of McMinn County High School, where he played football and baseball.



Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Ann \"Tib\" Womac McNutt of Athens; two daughters and one son-in-law, Melissa \"Missie\" Ann McNutt of Lincoln, Ala., and Stefanie Nicole \"Nika\" and Terry Stinnett of Delano; four grandchildren, Jacqueline \"Lindsay\" Barnett, James Ross \"Iian\" Barnett, Jonathon Cameron Stinnett and Alexis Deon Stinnett; a special friend and brother-in-law, Billy Womac of Athens; one niece, Terrie Ellen McNutt Castleman of Collegedale; and one aunt and two uncles.



The family wishes to extend a special heart-warmth thanks to Life Care Center of Athens, who went above and beyond during his time with them.



Graveside services were 11 a.m. Wednesday at McMinn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Scotty Bales officiating.



Pallbearers were Terry Stinnett, Iian Barnett, Cameron Stinnett, Billy Womac, James Presswood Jr., Matthew Hammons and Jimmy Hawkins.



The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral & Cremation Services.
