Willie Kaye Moore Gibbs, of San Diego, Calif., and formerly of Athens, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at her home after battling cancer.
She was born on Sept. 9, 1941 to the late Seth and Minnie Carter Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gibbs; one son, Homer Gibbs; two brothers, John W. Moore and Leonard Moore; and three sisters, Alice Moore, Violet Frye and Ruth Lunsford.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Parsons and her friend, Paul Hurlburt, and Elizabeth Thompson and her husband, Adam, of San Diego, Calif.; one son, Ronnie Gibbs and his wife of Wisconsin; five grandchildren and one boy on the way to be born in March 2013, Joseph Parsons, Angela Parsons, Homer Gibbs Jr. and Aubrey Thompson, all of San Diego, Calif., and Lakato-Rayne Gibbs of Wisconsin; two sisters and one brother-in-law, June Howard and Carol and Neal Tatum of Athens; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Thomas \"Tom Dooley\" Moore of Athens, and Dave and Maxine Moore of Blue Ridge, Ga.; and a special best friend, Evelyn Curran of San Diego, Calif.
A quote from her daughter, Elizabeth, \"I know God has a place for all of us and she will be going to a better place. She was a wonderful mom who gave her all to her family through thick and thin. She will be missed tremendously.\"
A memorial service is planned for later this month in California.
American Cremation Services of Escondido, Calif. is in charge of arrangements.
